It’s official! I have survived my first two group runs with the Fleet Feet No Boundaries 5k training group! And, get this – didn’t even come in “last” either time!
I am finding that I really enjoy the group runs. I enjoy being a part of something that is so supporting and encouraging. The girls in my group (yes, somehow it worked out that the group is all women) are warm, caring, and supportive. We are slowly getting to know one another as well. Our group leader, Sarah, is fantastic as well. Supportive, motivating, and makes sure to check in with everyone on the group runs. Her motto is “no one left behind” and I’ve seen her practice that so far!
The run I did today wasn’t fabulous (I felt like the one I did Wednesday was much better in terms of performance) but the important thing was that I showed up and did it. I know that there are days when I am going to have great workouts and days that I will not. In the end though, what matters is that I did it. I will never be the fastest, but that’s ok. I am simply setting out to accomplish something that I haven’t been able to do before.
I also have new running shoes, which have been working out great, and a super supportive (and expensive) sports bra. I have a nice light to help me be seen in the dark, too. I just ordered some nice socks to help prevent blisters, and if I continue to like running, I might even buy a fancy GPS watch.
I’m already looking forward to my group run next Wednesday!
