It’s been a while since I did a running update! Everything is going really well (injury-free! Yay!) and while I am still as slow as a turtle stampeding through molasses, I am able to run farther than when I first started and walk less. My max is 3.4 miles before I feel like my legs are going to crap out on me, but I can do a 5k in under 50 minutes when I seriously push myself! I can also run 3-4 minutes without stopping. Considering I couldn’t even walk around the block this time last year without being out of breath and my back hurting, I think this is progress! My goal for my first 5k is under 55 minutes so it looks like I’m going to make it! I do about a 15 minute mile and I’m proud of that – when I started I did a 20 minute mile, so I’ve already shaved 5 minutes off from FEBRUARY!
My first 5k is May 8 (Mother’s Day!) and you can bet I’ll be blogging about it afterwards. My in-laws are even coming up to support me, which I thought was super sweet! I’m nervous but I know I’ll at least finish! I need to get out and practice on the course one or two more times as well to make sure I’m confident in it. I plan on doing the next running group that Fleet Feet offers, which is working up to the 5 miler at the Cleveland Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving.
In exciting running related news, I’ve been chosen to be a Level Up Virtual Runs Ambassador for 2016! Crazy to think they’d pick me, the new runner, right? I am SUPER excited about this – I think this will help motivate me to continue running and work on pace and distance! But – what’s a virtual run?
“A virtual run is one where you sign up online for a specified distance (5k, 10k, half marathon, etc), and then run at your own time and pace. You get to map out your own course and keep track of your own time and distance. These runs are on the honor system. You are responsible for submitting your time and running the required distance.”
So basically, you’re running a race on your own time, course, and honor…and you’re still getting a super awesome finisher’s medal!
Level Up Virtual Runs has an awesome May run going on – all you Star Wars fans out there will love this! It’s called the May the 4th Be With You Run and HOW CUTE is the finisher’s medal? Because honestly – who doesn’t love BB-8?
Part of my job as an ambassador is to be able to offer ya’ll SWEET deals on entry fees, so using the code SAVE10, you can save 10%!
I can’t wait to keep on my running adventures! I am surprised that I like it so much and actually want to do it when things aren’t chasing me. Stay tuned for more updates!
