Self-affirmations are pretty much just what they sound like – affirmations of how awesome you are. They’re meant to help you overcome negative thoughts. Some examples of self-affirmations include:
- I am beautiful!
- I am a total badass.
- I deserve to be happy and healthy.
Statements such as these help you visualize success and truly believe in what you’re affirming to yourself. Use them long enough and you’ll start seeing changes – I promise! They can help you gain confidence to ask that cute guy (or girl) from the coffee shop on a date, start a new healthy living plan, or even ask for that raise that you know you deserve at work.
I use self-affirmations with all of my clients at work (and with myself, duh!) and really encourage them to write a new one down daily. A fun idea? Get a large jar (a mason jar would work or even a clean, empty peanut butter jar) and write down an affirmation for every day of the month. Pull a new one out each day and repeat to yourself several times a day. Or, use a dry-erase marker and write an affirmation on the mirror that you most often use so that you see it whenever you glance at your beautiful reflection!
Caution: you might find your self-esteem getting a boost while using self-affirmations!
